Metaplectic Tori over Local Fields

Smooth irreducible representations of tori over local fields have been parameterized by Langlands, using class field theory and Galois cohomology. This paper extends this parameterization to central extensions of such tori, which arise naturally in the setting of nonlinear covers of reductive groups.

Algebraic Group Actions on Noncommutative Spectra

Let G be an affine algebraic group and let R be an associative algebra with a rational action of G by algebra automorphisms. We study the induced G-action on the set Spec R of all prime ideals of R, viewed as a topological space with the Jacobson-Zariski topology, and on the subspace Rat R ⊆ Spec R consisting of all rational ideals of R. Here, a prime ideal P of R is said to be rational if the ...

On complex and noncommutative tori

The “noncommutative geometry” of complex algebraic curves is studied. As first step, we clarify a morphism between elliptic curves, or complex tori, and C-algebras Tθ = {u, v | vu = e2πiθuv}, or noncommutative tori. The main result says that under the morphism isomorphic elliptic curves map to the Morita equivalent noncommutative tori. Our approach is based on the rigidity of the length spectra...

Group Actions, Linear Transformations, and Flows

It is known that there is a close relationship between matrix groups and linear transformations. The purpose of this exposition is to explore that relationship and to bridge it to the area of applied mathematics. Some known connections between discrete algorithms and differential systems will be used to motivate a larger framework that allows embracing more general matrix groups. Different type...

Maximal harmonic group actions on finite graphs

This paper studies groups of maximal size acting harmonically on a finite graph. Our main result states that these maximal graph groups are exactly the finite quotients of the modular group Γ = 〈 x, y | x = y = 1 〉 of size at least 6. This characterization may be viewed as a discrete analogue of the description of Hurwitz groups as finite quotients of the (2, 3, 7)-triangle group in the context...
